What does the ‘XY 390’ mean?

Is there an error in row 39 as well? After the first purl 5, it says k1, k5.

Like the previous poster, I wonder about the instructions for “prison”. My letters aren’t readable at all.

Hi, I have started this pattern twice sofar and was wondering if it is me or if it is the pattern. The bottom of the letters seem to be a bit odd shaped. My “S” for example doesn’t look like the one posted in the dishcloth example. I’ve read and redread the pattern to make sure I have it right and still when I reknit it, it came out odd. I am making theses for christmas gifts and would great appreicate some advice.. thanks
