A Death Day Party

October 30, 2008

To honor our dearly departed Chewy

MENU

Baked Severed Foot
Rotted Eggs on a bed of Wilted Greens
Moldy Vegetables lightly steamed
Stuffed Brains

Bubbly Blood served to cleanse the palate

Chewy died on October 30th, 2007 from Urinary Cancer.  Not a pleasant way to go for a beloved pet.. but at least had 8 beautiful years with our family.   In tribute of Chewy, we all said a few words about her as we sat to our delectable holiday table… the best words were prepared by the Big Guy, and were as follows:

Soft furred dog, loved boys and girls
Was happiest chasing chipmunks and squirrels
Look on her face made her look sadder
Took 15 pees to empty her bladder
A dog that we will always miss,
Died too young ’cause she couldn’t pi$$

Only he could put words like those together… (gah)…

Anyway.. using what minimal supplies I had in the house.. I prepared a fun, and tasty death day party meal… complete with a cake… as follows…

Main Entree- Severed Foot

Pre-Roast                                        Post Roast

Rotten Eggs on a bed of Wilted Greens

Lightly Steamed Moldy Vegetables

Stuffed Brains

And.. of course, we served our bubbly blood in skelecups

The meal was finished with our Death Day Cake… (not my usual ‘all out’ decorating, but the best I could muster on very few supplies and almost zero time!)

We love you Chewy!

** the eggs tasted like plain old hard boiled eggs.. they had a lightly salty taste on the very outside edge (who doesn’t salt their eggs anyway???)  The Foot was meatloaf shaped as a foot, the brains were stuffing that I molded into a brain jello mold, I couldn’t get a good photo but it did have a brain shape to it…  and the moldy veggies… I bought purple cauliflower…  it tastes no different than white but for some reason my kids will eat it JUST because it’s purple.. go figure…

Check back tomorrow for Halloween hilarity!

that is a pretty inventive way to celebrate life. Harry had it right – didn’t he? Love the poem, hope the party made the memory a little bit easier. g

That’s so sweet… The Knight doesn’t write poetry at all. (And thanks for letting me know about the eggs!)
