The Very Hungry Caterpillar … Knitting? What Knitting?

July 31, 2008

Yes, we’re at it again… caterpillar ‘hatching’ and Monarch metamorphosing (is that really a verb??)…

We can’t resist the beauty and mystery in watching the process of egg to butterfly… it’s just so fun and cool….
We found our eggs on July 16th, just by looking through the milkweed… pulled up a few bunches and brought them home. Then… after a few days… a baby teeny weeny itsy bitsy caterpillar emerged. He started munching away on the leaves…

Then… we had to get fresh milkweed, and with it, more eggs… in fact it was difficult to find milkweed without eggs… and now that that milkweed is wilting a bit again… we went on a milkweed journey and got even more milkweed…

Today’s count… 4 caterpillars, and 6 more eggs…

We’ll have a Monarch family soon

Caterpillar #1 is nearly ready to make it’s crysallis … and we’re watching eagerly for the tell tale signs…

Yeah… some of you think this is a knitting blog don’t you! πŸ˜‰ Well.. it is.. and I have proof…

The February Lady Sweater

She only needs sleeves now (and a bit of weaving in ends… but who’s counting)

and yes… thought it’s a terrible HAIR day.. I did chop off about 5″ last week…

Science nerds are cool! I love that you’re watching caterpillars. February Lady is looking good. This fall we’ll all take to the streets in our Lady sweaters and knitters will rule the world! (I can’t believe how many people are making this sweater. Me too!)

What a great sweater! As for the “outdoor” friends, guess what we found in the kiddie pool this afternoon? A full grown frog! LOL He’s just swimming around in there, having a good ‘ole time. Now I’m wondering if I should tell the kids about him or let him surprise them. *snicker* I’m so mean. πŸ˜‰
