Entries from May 2007
So, I’m joining the ‘Summer of Stash Out 2007′ which is going to be good for me since we’re now moving and I hope to have less stash to move, and more completed projects as a result ;-) here are my goals
1. Finish my UFOs, namely, Abby’s skirt, and my cabled scarf (need to find my pattern)
2. Get significant work done on all three children’s dishcloth afghans
3. Use up my spare ‘leftovers’ skeins on swap goodies
4. Knit up the hats for my nieces and nephews for christmas
5. Knit my mom’s reader’s wrap
6. Knit up some scarves to have on hand for christmas gifts
Rules:
1. I can buy a skein if needed to finish a project
2. I can buy skeins of brown sheep cotton fleece for the children’s afghan’s once I’ve run out of what I pre-purchased
3. Once I finish my hat designs with what I have in my stash, I can purchase yarn for test knits of the various sizes in the different weight yarns I’ve envisioned
4. I can purchase yarn for my mom’s reader’s wrap, but ONLY after I have finished my UFOs.
5. I can purchase sock yarn for my first pair of socks
6. Since we’re moving to PA mid-summer, I can check out my new LYS and make at a minimum 2 purchases before Labor day.

Yikes… admitting that is a lot harder for me than I’d expected… but it’s true… after 1 year of waiting, and selling a house, and moving to a rental and waiting and waiting.. oh and did I mention that we had to WAIT for nearly a year??? The offer from Postal finally came…
it’s a bit surreal actually, I mean… the idea of it actually coming was almost a pipedream for a while there… I mean who do you know that was asked to move/transfer with a company that had to wait for that long for an actual job offer to be finalized?? Well… we did… and while we haven’t yet officially accepted the offer… we plan to. We’re waiting (something we consider ourselves professionals at now)… for the relo plan… but when we get that.. we’ll set a date..
Where are we heading? Pennsylvania…
The kids are half and half on the idea… JJ loves it because we hope to find a house with a pool… but Abby… she gets that she’s leaving her school and her friends… and she’s not all that thrilled… I feel for her because I’m kinda not that thrilled either at times… I’ve made good friends at her school too… and I was really looking forward to JJ starting up this fall too… and hoping to get Ms. Cheek again! I loved working with her and will be sad to say goodbye. My biggest concern actually is the spanish… I have yet to find info on an immersion program in PA like what we have here… and will likely have to go with a tutor… I refuse to give that up… kids are sponges and we need to take advantage of our window of opportunity for language development…
well, enough babble.. I’ll be discussing the move at length here no doubt…
Yesterday I designed a dishcloth.. I’m knitting it up now to see how it looks.. this is my first attempt at designing one.. so we’ll just have to see how it comes out….

We’re finally approaching the end of my completely insane schedule each week due to our current residence and children in schools in two different towns.. JJ will be ‘graduating’ from preschool next Tuesday evening,.. wahoo! I’m excited just because it’s a big deal to him… and the school makes a huge deal out of the whole thing … they even wear caps and gowns! But I’m more excited because I won’t have to rush out of the house every morning and NOT return until later in the afternoon. Chelsea might finally get into a better napping schedule, and nap in a bed instead of the car… ! I might be able to keep my house reasonably clean.. but also… wow… the $$ I’ll save from NOT filling my gas tank once per week!
Wednesdays are ALWAYS tough as I volunteer at Abby’s school and that means that we get home even later than the usual day… but today’s bound to be as busy as the usual Wednesday… I have some errands that have to be run.. and probably can only do that after getting JJ at school…
I feel like I live the life of the parents who have their children in loads of activities after school… (which we do not)… I just can’t imagine how busy I”ll be once my Littles are starting up with sports and after school activities! Yikes!
On the knitting front.. I received my Harry Potter Stitch Markers yesterday from Sunne and Oh my gosh.. they are so cool and so perfect! I also got my needles and am now just waiting on my yarn and the few HP goodies I ordered to arrive… and then I can send my package on… seeing how it’s going to Alaska, I want to get it out in the mail asap!

The rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves
2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 8 random things and post these rules
3. At the end of your blog you need to tag 8 people and post their names
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
So, here are my 8 things:
1. I met Mister InsanKnitty online, before the ‘internet’ was really KNOWN
2. I would love to go to Boot Camp, but don’t want to be in the military
3. I don’t really like chocolate.
4. Mr. InsanKnitty thinks that knitting makes me look like I’m a 90 year old lady!
5. I have been running since I was 12.
6. I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue.
7. Ever since having been pregnant I have to sleep with a pillow between my knees
8. I have lost nearly 40 pounds on weight watchers.
Thanks Isabelle
I’m going to break the rules a bit because I am really only friends with a few other bloggers and they’ve recently done this same or similar ‘tag’…
I’ll spare them the repeat!

We are gluttons for punishment… well actually… it’s Mother’s Day and we didn’t want to cook (neither myself nor my hubby)… so we decided to attempt a restaurant that is 99% of the time safe with the kids… in spite of the bad episode last night…
They were pretty much angels! And for once I got John to take pictures of me with them

Mum… you’ve been a hard worker you’re whole life… and rarely take a break for yourself. I hope you can find time today to relax (probably on your flight from CO to FL)…
I hope your mother’s day reunion with Misti and kids is great! I love you!

Trivia #1
What’s the name of this potion?
This potion has the colour of molten gold, and while exposed to the air, large drops will leap like goldfish above the surface without spilling.
Answer: Felix Felices
Trivia #2
Which book is this line from?
“Harry and Cho were now too embarrassed to look at each other, let alone talk to each other; what if Ron and Hermione started going out together, then split up? Could their friendship survive it? Harry remembered the few weeks when they had not been talking to each other in third year; he had not enjoyed trying to bridge the distance between them. And then, what if they didn’t split up? What if they became like Bill and Fleur, and it became excrutiatingly embarrassing to be in their presence, so that he was shut out for good?”
Answer: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Trivia #3
Who utters these words?
“Oh I am glad I’m not on duty. I wouldn’t fancy having to go and tell the Irish they’ve got to stop celebrating.”
Answer: Arthur Weasley

Ok.. given how many times Barenaked Ladies came up it’s obvious that I have all of their albums on my iPOd
I’m surprised that C+C Music Factory came up twice and pleased that the Pogues, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Cherry Poppin’ Daddies came up… I really enjoy some alternative stuff to my normal BNL and Dave Matthews Band fixes that are a daily thing
My running mix wasn’t hit once… so no surprised from Eminem or Usher, or any of that crazy 90’s dance stuff that I like to run to ‘I like to Move it move it ” etc.
Thanks Annemarie! Ok, so now.. I assume I have to go tag some folks

Oh my gosh… until now I had just figured I was a whack job and with having taught myself to knit from my childhood memory and from a book (essentially)… I’d somehow gotten something wrong along the way… I detailed it all before here. Well turns out there’s actually a NAME for the type of knitting I did… (I have to use the past tense since I got so frusted with my attempts at lace that I went here to re-teach myself to knit (continental style of course) from the online video tutorials…
Annemarie mentioned that she knits with this style called combination knitting, and linked to a site on combo knitting here. I of course checked it out and sure enough.. .that’s what I did!!!
Wow… so it has a name.. combination knitting… hmmm
Thanks Annemarie!
While I’m on the knitting topic… I ‘found’ a skein of yarn (Colinette, Fandango) I’d purchased some months back because I fell in love with the colorway and the example scarf knit from it at my LYS… I had filled up my ‘purchase’ card and had $25 to spend, and picked this skein up with the intent of knitting a beautiful scarf for myself… well, since it is Mother’s day weekend, I figured.. heck.. I’ll knit for myself today.. none of the swaps, none of my kids.. I’ll knit for me… I cast on 20 stitches and got busy.. watched a bunch of gardening shows on HGTV, and next thing I know I’m at the end of my skein.. but what’s this??? it’s wider than I’d really wanted.. and too short… UGH… I put it down, angry at myself for knitting and not paying attention (isn’t that what stockinette stitch is for in the first place??) … tonight after a terrible dinner out with the kids (behavior was just unbelieveable, and too embarrassing to discuss)… I went down to the quiet of the basement.. and frogged the whole thing…
sadness…
Tomorrow, I’ll head to a coffee shop after my long run and enjoy some quiet time and start over…
