Where have I been?

March 26, 2007 · 1 Comment

I haven’t written a post in a week… yikes… it’s just been busy here. We’re getting our camp paperwork under control and into the mail, so that’s had me ‘busy’… I kept very busy with knitting this weekend though so I”ll post a few quick pics…

I finished a bunch of cloths (well, I need to weave in ends.. but otherwise I’m finished) Including Mom and Mom-In-Law’s bunny cloths…

Shamrock Half Marathon, Virginia Beach, VA

March 18, 2007 · 1 Comment

The shamrock half marathon was today… I drove up yesterday with Abby’s kindergarten teacher from last year.. Molly, and her SO Steve… nice drive, complete with knitting that had to be frogged from talking too much… oh bother…

dinner.jpg

Molly, Elizabeth, and I (and the two Steve’s) had dinner at PI zerria, decent pasta, but salty pizza for Steve…

I helped Molly and Elizabeth (another of the Kindergarten teachers at JY Joyner) in their training for the half marathon… which began as a weight loss plan for them both, and developed into the idea to run in the Shamrock half. Both have done tremendously well in the weight loss category, and their running really improved along the way… I’m so excited for them to have run the whole race, with no hip issues for Elizabeth!

finish.jpg

We each ran our own races.. so I started in the first ‘corral’ while they started in the 6th… I finished in 1:43:37, which works out to 7:55 pace. I was surprised at how well I did and how good I felt considering how terribly my training has been the last few months… but I’ll take it… I seriously didn’t think I’d finish in 1:45.. nevermind less!

The weekend was filled with people dressed in silly leprechaun outfits and other goofy get ups… and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of one guy’s dog…

How much green paint did he get everywhere else in his house… ???

A day off feels good

March 16, 2007 · No Comments

I took the day off from working out today. It felt good to be up and showered before heading out the door for once. I was in such a good routine of morning running (read that… crack of dawn before the birds are up)… so that I was normally showered before heading out the door.. but with the packing, moving, and readjusting to life in a new house, and unpacking and now the time change.. well… the morning run went away with the hour we lost as we ’sprang’ forward…

I hope to get that routine back into the swing in the next couple weeks… we’ll see how that goes..

In the meantime, today I am feeling a lot more rested, and maybe now my race won’t seem so bad on Sunday morning…

Lucky the leprechaun is visiting us tonight… so I need my energy for planning purposes ;-)

And finally, the bunny cloth which is a WIP… I thought that the March KAL would be a shamrock, hence the dark green color… bummer…

Finally uploaded some pics

March 15, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve completed a few cloths in recent weeks, though I wish I’d done more.. I’m getting there…
Here’s the USMC one I did for FIL’s easter basket. I have one more to design and do for him, one that says ‘Semper Fi’… I’ve got to get that one graphed out and started. I learned a lot designing the USMC one… hopefully Semper Fi will go much more smoothly…
usmc.jpg

Also, here’s MILs 3 crosses for her basket. I plan to make her the March KAL bunny for her basket as well… it really is so cute! I know she’ll love it. I have a soft green that I’ll use for the bunny…

3crosses.jpg

And, finally JJ’s ‘Surprise’ square. Of course ALL of these still need to have their ends woven in and need to be blocked, but.. in time.. ;-) I cannot seem to locate the Om cloth I did for SIL’s birthday… I plan to make 4 smaller ones with a lighter cotton yarn this weekend on my drive to and from the half marathon… once I find the one I’ve completed I’ll post it as well.

Planning on taking it easy today with regards to workouts… just a light weights session and short run… 3 miles maybe…

I’m beat

March 15, 2007 · No Comments

I’m so zonked, but I wanted to get a post in tonight.

I finished JJ’s ’surprise’ square, though it wasn’t really anything ’special’ per se.. just that he’d asked me to knit him a square and surprise him… so I picked a hearts pattern (5 hearts) and knit him one. I’ll include it in his afghan and he and I talked about the different squares I could make for his afghan. He was really excited, which surprised me a bit for a 4 and a half year old boy.. but hey.. I’ll take it! Any enthusiasm about my knitting that isn’t my own is something I’m all for!

I ran 6 miles today…. it was labored and exhausting, and I couldn’t wait for it to be over! I took full advantage of the 3 duck feeding breaks that Chelsea needed and milked them for as long as possible. I’m a tad bit worried for my half marathon this weekend… I keep trying to remind myself that finishing will be fine… especially given how sick I’ve been this winter.. I’ve lost a lot from my training and I’m really feeling it in my runs lately… of course pushing the extra 40+ pounds with the jogger and child today probably contributed to the BLECHYNESS of the run!

On to better things… like … sleep

I’ll take a photo of the recently completed objects tomorrow and post them..

Moving right along

March 13, 2007 · No Comments

dug a dung dug a dung…. footloose and fancy free… ahhh the muppets!

Anyway… John was out of town over the weekend, and I was also so sore from lifting weights last week that I just couldn’t get my running done. Big bummer too because 3 days off in a row is NOT that great an idea really. So yesterday’s 6 miler felt strained and like work instead of the usual mental downtime… my half marathon training has not gone as well as I’d have liked… too many colds/illnesses since January, and then a minor injury that put me off track. I know I can run the distance and finish the race.. but I have this thing about wanting to get a certain time, and I know it will be very difficult now. bleh… it’s a flat and fast course though, so I won’t give up hope yet. Maybe today’s run will feel better and I’ll have a more positive outlook. Maybe not… but whatever the case.. I’ll get ‘r done!

Now… with regards to knitting… I also didn’t get much of that going over the weekend. JJ keeps asking for her ’surprise’ washcloth… not exactly sure why he really wants one so badly but I’m making him one with hearts on it… and will tell him how much I love him when I give it to him tomorrow… it’s nearly done! At 4.5 he is still and will always be my mama’s boy. I’ll try to steal the cloth back to include in his afghan if I can… if not… no biggie, I will just knit another ;-)

Ahhh sweet bliss

March 11, 2007 · No Comments

John gets home this evening.. I cannot wait!! The weekend alone with the kids wasn’t too bad, but I’m ready for the double teamed action again! I didn’t get nearly as much knitting in as I’d have liked, but I did complete the knitting of Becky’s baby hat, it’s bigger than I’d have liked, but I think he’ll be able to wear it into the fall since it will certainly stretch some. I have to seam it and weave in the ends still, but it did come out cute.

Since I wasn’t able to spend much time knitting… I did spend a lot of time thinking. My SIL made a comment after seeing my kiddo’s frog and apple hats at DFILs party weekend that ‘they’d make great Christmas Gifts’… So I’m trying to think ahead for her 3. I found some great patterns for hats and am going to come up with a plan for her children as well as afghans for each of them. I think the afghans is certainly attainable since I could do it in simple blocks ‘washcloth’ like… I’ve seen dozens of patterns out there that I’d love to try and why not put them to use in an afghan. Of course this also means afghans for each of MY 3 littles… I’ve gotten the ideas for each of my sister in law’s kiddos, and ‘mostly’ have my three figured out. I just need to document them, print the patterns and pick colors still. Once I’m done with that I can figure out how many per month I need to make between now and then ;-) So I’m not STRESSING it when December rolls around.

Thinking of christmas already!! Yeah… I’m nuts!

I also found a pattern I LOVE for my MIL and my Mom… so I want to see if I can pick that up at Great Yarns this week and start figuring in the time for those projects as well.

I may hit my stash for a bunch of these projects.. which isn’t a bad thing since the stash never seems to decrease in size until I get the urge for scarf knitting and such… ;-)

Ok.. bathtime for 3 very active kiddos awaits…

Hats

March 10, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve finally uploaded SOME of the pics of my completed projects from this year.

Here’s the snowman hat I made for Troy and Rachael’s new baby (Madison) in January. Chelsea felt it was her obligation to ‘model’ the hat.
